Guide

Switching from Tiller

What comes with you, what is genuinely different, and the practical steps to move without losing history.

Sheetful and Tiller do the same job: bank transactions, automatically, in a spreadsheet you own. If you already budget in Tiller, you are not changing method by switching, so this guide sticks to what actually changes and what it costs you to move. Tiller is a good product with a longer track record; the honest reasons to switch are price, sync timing, and the free tier.

What transfers

The way you work

Both tools put bank transactions into a spreadsheet and get out of the way. Nothing about pivot tables, SUMIFS, or your own tabs has to change.

Owning your data

Tiller writes to a spreadsheet in your own cloud storage, and Sheetful writes to your Google Drive or OneDrive. Whatever you have built stays yours, including after you cancel either service.

Your bank coverage

Sheetful connects through Plaid, and coverage for major US banks and credit unions is broad. Check your own institutions during the trial rather than assuming. Either way the connections themselves do not transfer between services: you log into each bank once more on the Sheetful side.

What is different

Price

Sheetful Premium is $79/year. Tiller moved to $99/year on August 1, 2026. Sheetful also has a free tier (1 bank connection, manual sync); Tiller is trial-then-paid.

Sync timing

Tiller refreshes on a daily schedule. On Sheetful Premium, a daily scheduled sync runs and Plaid webhooks push new transactions as your bank posts them, so most rows land without waiting for the next run. The free tier is manual: you click Sync Now when you want fresh data.

Template depth

Sheetful ships 7 templates with formulas and formatting built in. Tiller has the larger library, including community-built sheets. If you picked Tiller for a specific community template, check that a Sheetful template covers the same job before you move.

Categorization

Sheetful has 200+ merchant rules built in and categories you edit in the sheet. There is no user-defined rules interface at launch; it ships in the weeks after. Tiller's AutoCat is a mature feature, and this is the gap most switchers notice first.

Tiller pricing and features as published by Tiller, checked August 2026. Prices change; check Tiller's own site before you decide. Sheetful is not affiliated with Tiller. Sheetful uses Plaid, Google, and Microsoft APIs and is not affiliated with Plaid, Google, or Microsoft.

How to move

  1. 1

    Keep your current spreadsheet

Do not delete anything. Your existing sheet is already the archive of every transaction Tiller pulled. If you want a flat copy, download the Transactions tab as CSV (File, then Download).

  2. 2

    Sign up for Sheetful

The free tier covers 1 bank connection and manual sync, with no card needed. That is enough to see real rows from your own bank before you decide anything.

  3. 3

    Connect your banks

Search for each bank and log in through Plaid. Plaid backfills roughly 90 days per connection. Free covers one bank; Premium has no connection cap, so a household's accounts all land in the same sheet.

  4. 4

    Pick a destination sheet

Create a fresh sheet from a template, or on Premium connect a spreadsheet you already own. Sheetful writes to a single tab, which you name in the connect form (it defaults to Transactions); if that tab does not already exist, Sheetful creates it, and the rest of the workbook is left alone.

  5. 5

    Bring older history in

For anything older than the Plaid backfill, use CSV import and map the columns once. This is where the export from step 1 goes.

  6. 6

    Run both for one cycle

Compare a full month side by side, then cancel the one you stopped opening. Both spreadsheets remain yours either way.

Two things to know before you commit

  • There is no user-defined rules interface at launch. If you lean on AutoCat rules today, that is the one habit Sheetful cannot match yet; it ships in the weeks after launch.
  • Visual formatting is richer on Google Sheets than on Excel. Both destinations get the same transactions and the same templates, but charts and some conditional formatting are on the Google Sheets side today.
  • Sheetful is a web app with one login per subscription. Your spreadsheet has its own mobile apps, and you share it the way you share any other file.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will your Tiller history come over?

Not automatically. Plaid backfills roughly 90 days when you connect a bank, and Sheetful syncs forward from there. Anything older lives in the spreadsheet Tiller already wrote to, which is yours to keep, and you can bring it into Sheetful through CSV import.

Do you have to rebuild your own tabs and formulas?

No. On Premium you can point Sheetful at a Google Sheet you already own. Sheetful writes to one tab in it, which you name when you connect; if that tab does not already exist, Sheetful creates it for you. Your other tabs and formulas are left alone. If you would rather start clean, create a sheet from a built-in template instead; the free tier includes one template and Premium unlocks all 7.

Is Sheetful cheaper than Tiller?

Yes, as of August 2026. Sheetful Premium is $79/year or $9.99/month. Tiller raised its annual price to $99 effective August 1, 2026. Sheetful also has a free tier with 1 bank connection and manual sync, so you can run it alongside your current setup before you pay anything.

Does Sheetful have rules like AutoCat?

Not at launch. Sheetful ships with 200+ merchant rules built in and categories you can edit in the sheet. A user-defined rules interface is coming after launch, so if AutoCat is the reason you use Tiller, wait for that before you switch.

Can you run both for a while?

Yes, and it is the switch we recommend. Both tools write to spreadsheets you own, so keep your existing sheet as an archive, run Sheetful on the free tier or a trial for one full billing cycle, and cancel whichever one you stopped opening.

Try it alongside what you have

Free tier: 1 bank connection, manual sync. Premium: $79/year, unlimited banks, automatic sync.

14-day free trial. Card required at checkout. After your trial, you will be charged $9.99/month or $79/year, and your subscription renews automatically at that rate until you cancel. A price change takes effect at your next renewal, never mid-cycle. Cancel anytime in Settings; cancel before day 14 to avoid the first charge.
