Sync to Google Sheets

Bank transactions via Plaid, straight into your spreadsheet - automatically. No more weekly CSV exports.

If you budget in Google Sheets, you know the pain: log into your bank, export a CSV, clean up the column headers, paste it in, fix the date format. Every week. Every bank. There's a better way, and two versions of it.

Method 1: Manual CSV Export

Every major bank lets you download transactions as a CSV file. The process is the same everywhere:

  1. Log into your bank's website
  2. Navigate to your account's transaction history
  3. Set a date range and export as CSV
  4. Open Google Sheets and import the CSV (File → Import)
  5. Clean up column headers, fix date formats, remove duplicates
  6. Repeat for every bank account, every week

The catch: This works, but it takes 15–30 minutes per week and you'll miss transactions if you forget.

Method 2: Automatic Sync with Sheetful

Sheetful connects your bank accounts to Google Sheets via Plaid, the same bank connection technology used by Venmo, Robinhood, and Coinbase. On Premium, your transactions sync to Google Sheets automatically; on the free tier, you click Sync Now whenever you want fresh data.

Step-by-step setup (about 5 minutes)

  1. Sign up for Sheetful on the free tier (one bank, manual sync). A card is only required when you start a Premium trial.
  2. Connect your bank: search for your bank and log in through Plaid's secure interface.
  3. Connect Google Sheets: authorize Sheetful to write to a Sheet in your Drive. You own the spreadsheet.
  4. Pick a template: 7 ready-to-use templates: Monthly Budget, Spending Tracker, Debt Payoff Planner, and more.
  5. Click Sync Now: your last 90 days of transactions are imported immediately.

What you get with automatic sync:

  • On Premium, Plaid webhooks push new transactions to your Sheet as they land
  • Merchant names cleaned up automatically
  • 200+ merchant rules built in, category editing on Premium, custom rules coming
  • Multiple bank accounts in one sheet
